2014 was the year Kevin Hart finally broke through as legitimate movie star thanks in large part to the success of the buddy comedy Ride Along (a sequel is already in the post-production and set to come out in 2016) and it would appear he’s deviating from that winning formula. Get Hard finds him paired up with fellow comedy superstar Will Ferrell in a trailer that’s heavy on the slapstick hi-jinks.

The plot follows James King (Ferrell) a millionaire who is convicted for fraud and sentenced to ten years in federal prison. In the 30 days before he has to report he recruits Darnell Lewis (Hart), a car-washer who works in his office building, to teach him how to survive in prison, except that Hart’s character has never done any time – Ferrell just assumes he has because he’s black. Speaking of people who have been to prison, T.I. makes an appearance in trailer as well, assigning Ferrell his gang name of “Mayo” – short for mayonnaise – because he’s white, you see.

While the concept doesn’t seem particularly fresh – in fact, it’s pretty much the exact same plot as the 2007 Rob Schneider direct-to-DVD movie Big Stan (DO NOT WATCH THAT MOVIE!) – and the trailer is filled with jokes we’ve seen before (Kevin Hart is short, white guy “acting black”), but having two of the biggest comedy starts in the world attached is enough for me to give it the benefit of the doubt and probably at least give it a spin when it pops up on demand.

The movie is set for a late March release.
